What is Hypnosis
Hypnotherapy is a natural way of quietening the conscious mind in order to reach the subconscious.
When the subconscious is spoken to directly, old patterns, beliefs and conditioning can be reprogrammed. New ideas and suggestions can then be introduced to make the changes that you wish.
From a therapeutic point of view, trance is useful because it opens a direct channel to your unconscious mind, and it is your unconscious that governs your behaviour
During a hypnotherapy session the hypnotherapist will act as a guide to help you to make the changes you desire. You will be guided into a state of relaxation. (trance like state). To induce this state the hypnotherapist may use a variety of methods such as deep breathing, muscle relaxation, counting techniques, or imagery.
What type
We practice Eriksonian non-directive hypnosis. This means that we tend to use indirect suggestions, rather than commands, to induce trance. We believe that this is more useful than an the authoritarian approach which we do use with some clients.
At times you may listen and participate silently as the hypnotherapist guides you. Other times you may be a more "active" participant, answering questions and giving feedback to the hypnotherapist, and sometimes you may go into a very comfortable sleep.
When the proper suggestions and imagery have been completed, you will be gently emerged. Most often people feel rested, relaxed and refreshed after a hypnosis session.
